Your Cultural Experience in Innisfail –

Connect to Country

Learn about our traditional history from the Innisfail region and find out how we practiced sustainability, which made it possible for generations of ‘Mandubarra’ people to co-exist within the natural environment of the tropical rainforest, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Aboriginal people of these great lands are the very first Environmentalists on planet Earth. There is so much taught by Aboriginal people – and plenty more to learn from us…

Join us for a gentle walk as we share with you our Rainforest tucker, medicines, and tools from our natural lifestyle and ancient culture over many a moon…

An hour of your time will positively last forever…

We warmly welcome you…

Medicines…

Beach Hibiscus – one of the most useful plants we are blessed to have grow natively here on our Tropical Coast.

Here, we show just one of the uses of this beautiful plant – a band-aid! The bark of the Beach Hibiscus is used for rope in many a circumstance, we wrap the leaf over the wound and tie it down with the stripped bark from the plant itself – no need for the pharmacy.

Our TRIBE –   Mandubarra

We are proud first Australians of the Innisfail area on the coast – saltwater and rainforest people.

Over countless generations, we have lived in tune with both sea and country – side by side and inside mother nature with all her beauty. This hand represents our standing strong and proud as the oldest living Culture on Mother Earth. We cordially invite you to learn how we have remarkably done this until this very day as you read our story here…

Food…

For tens of thousands of years, we have survived only on Mother Nature and all her delights that will ensure we have tucker in our bellies for us to be sustainable and strong. Here, there is food everywhere, our supermarket is always stocked with a variety of delights of plants and animals.

Supermarket…

Quandongs – A most delicious fruit of our Rainforest. Not only do they make a perfect filling for a pie, or spread on some hot Damper from the fire, they are rich in VitaminC, they contain complex oils rich in Antibacterial qualities. Common usages over the moons include oral hygiene among many other daily fixes. Through years of trial & error, some remarkable discoveries have been made via Aboriginal Culture. We are the world’s very first bakers, farmers and pharmacists  and doctors… the list goes on…

Hardware stores…

We need not to wander far to find ALL the necessary items in our ‘always open’ hardware store here in Mandubarra Country. Our homes, tools, weapons are sourced from flora and fauna. Here, the Queensland Fan Palm is a great building material among many other uses.

On our Gallery’ page, you can see some of the tools, weapons and all sorts that we have created – mirroring what we have done for generations to survive sustainably.

Sustainability…

We never take more than our fill from all the Flora, Fauna and Earth on Mandubarra Country. ALL foods, medicines, tools and weapons are sustainabilty sourced – we never waste anything. With today’s concerns about climate change, Aboriginal Culture can teach the modern world a lot about the art of sustainability. Marine life, all sorts of flora & fauna that has been classified as ‘endangered’ these days, this has never happened on our watch over the past 60 + thousand years.

Crocodile Dreaming

We are salt & freshwater people. We have the best of both worlds with no limit to our supermarket, pharmacy and hardware items available at different times of the year to fill our needs on a daily basis. In this painting, we pay our great respects to our dinosaur co-inhabitants the Crocodile, a most respected and ancient creature whom rule the roost alongside us.

Our mob acknowledges the croc in its ability to camouflage itself in plain sight, its cunningness and strength which we also celebrate in traditional song and dance.
